What do you think about Bush's attempted changes to the definition of ';abortion'; in regards to birth control?

MoveOn.org is cirulating an email/open letter to John McCain right now in hopes of putting a stop to an attempt by Bush and his cronies to redefine the terms of ';abortion'; and thus make most birth control methods fall under the definition...this would make getting birth control very difficult (if not illegal in places) and thus is a HUGE issue in my opinion.

Here is the email I got today:

Birth control's NOT abortion.

Can you imagine living in a place where birth control is considered an ';abortion'; and health insurers won't cover it? Where even rape victims are denied emergency contraception?

It seems unbelievable, but the Bush Administration is quietly trying to redefine ';abortion'; to include birth control. The Houston Chronicle says this could wipe out dozens of state laws that protect women's reproductive freedom and protect rape victims.

This proposed ';rule change'; would not need congressional approval. And while Barack Obama and other senators have sent Bush a letter of protest, the one person Bush might actually listen to--John McCain--has remained noticeably silent.

Can you sign an emergency open letter to John McCain today?

A compiled petition with your individual comment will be presented to John McCain.

I for one believe birth control to be a good thing, considering the population growth we currently have is part of the strain on our earth and our economy, however I don't see it as a form of abortion...what do you think? What do you think about Bush's attempted changes to the definition of ';abortion'; in regards to birth control?
Not true that is the liberal spin on it. He is protecting doctors and staff that don't want to administer an abortion or birth control out of their beliefs in what life is. Not prevent birth control, prevent people from making me perform an abortion or sell birth control when I don't want to.

The Bush administration proposal protects pro-life doctors, nurses and other medical professionals who don't want to be involved in abortions by enforcing existing laws.

It also protects medical centers that don't want to do abortions on site and revokes federal funds from those that discriminate against pro-life medical professionals.

What do you think about Bush's attempted changes to the definition of ';abortion'; in regards to birth control?
This is another classic example of how far the radical right wing really is. Bush Jr. has spent his entire two terms kowtowing to this vocal minority who claims they want less involvement of government, but wants the government to dictate their own moral and religious values on the entire country.
This is political propoganda in an election year. Don't fall for Moveon tactics.

Republicans strongly support use of birth control by democrats.

now i am truly confused.

i thought liberals thought abortion WAS birth control, that there is no difference between the two. are you admitting that it is not? then what do you suppose it is?
One person's ';morning after pill'; is another person's ';abortion.'; just remember that whatever you think on this topic, 50% of the people in this country disagree with you.
YAY!

Legislation brought to you by religious nutballs that don't care about your health or life!

And remember,...

every sperm is sacred.
First off, never believe ANYTHING that originates from moveon.org. It is pure liberal propaganda and nothing more.
It would help if you provided more information. What are the proposed changes to the definition of abortion?
I read that a few weeks ago and it wasn't from MoveOn

Why can't republicans mind their own business. They b*tch if you have too many kids and b*tch if you use birth control.
If you take moveon.org seriously then something is wrong with you.
The nanny state, once again, trying to control our lives. The government does not belong in my bedroom.
Bush finally did something right
moveon.org should be your first clue that this is email spam propaganda.
Oh hell, without a link I will be skeptical of this. And moveon doesn't qualify any more than Rush Limbaugh.
Move on is a waste of air! They are SCUM!
Some Christian denominations believe that any method other than barrier is abortion, this is nothing new. Its just not that well known or advertised.

Their thinking is that with the pill conception can occur and its implantation that isn't happening, therefore the egg and sperm have met, and created an embryo. Not allowing that to implant and grow, causing in effect the end of the cells ability to replicate is in their view an abortion.

They feel that a group of undifferentiated cells has the same right to life as a full grown woman.

Doing this would endanger a woman's right to control her fertility and space her family and limit its size to one she and her husband can manage.

Why anyone would do something so foolish to placate a small, if vocal minority is beyond me.

McCain has already expressed his desire to end via packing the Supreme Court, abortion and so writing to him will do no good at all.

He is sleeping in their tent, and I, for one, am hoping hes wearing a condom.

It was just reported on the news on TV, so moveon.org is not the only place this has been reported.
Now that I see your sources, I apologize for calling that a hoax.

While I agree with the heart of that action (that service providers should be allowed to conscienciously object to provide service), there was absolutely no need to force such a precise and controversial definition of pregnancy into the bill. Including this language is clearly an attempt to make it easier to outlaw abortion in the future, so this redefinition should be stopped.

If Bush isn't stopped, the next president does need to know what the lame duck did so they can reverse his action.
Considering it is Moveon.org as your source I have doubts about it.

I like to get a independent source on that before I believe it.

Tell what I will support your effort if you will support my effort to ban all partial birth abortion expect in the case of the mother's life is in danager.

Or support the bill that a baby born alive during an abortion should be given life saving measures.

By voting for McCain.
